These Italian pinwheel sandwiches are an easy, make-ahead appetizer perfect for parties. A creamy sun-dried tomato pesto spread binds layers of ham, salami, cheese, and spinach in a tortilla, rolled and sliced into elegant spirals. They deliver impressive flavor with minimal fuss, freeing you to enjoy your own gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large (12-inch) soft flour tortilla or lavash wrap
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup creamy sun-dried tomato pesto
  • 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 6-8 slices thinly sliced deli ham
  • 6-8 slices thinly sliced salami or pepperoni
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach leaves, packed
  • 1/4 cup sliced roasted red peppers, patted dry
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • A pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Lay the tortilla flat on a clean cutting board.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, sun-dried tomato pesto, and grated Parmesan until smooth.
  3. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface of the tortilla, going to the edges.
  4. Layer the fillings in this order: ham slices, salami slices, shredded mozzarella, spinach leaves, roasted red peppers, Italian seasoning, and optional red pepper flakes.
  5. Starting at the edge closest to you, tightly roll the tortilla away from you, tucking in fillings as you go.
  6. Wrap the rolled log tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  7. Unwrap the log and use a sharp serrated knife to slice into 1-inch thick rounds.
  8. Arrange the pinwheels on a platter and serve immediately.

Notes

Chilling the log is essential for clean slices. Do not overfill the tortilla. Pat roasted red peppers dry to prevent sogginess. For gluten-free, use a gluten-free wrap. For dairy-free, use dairy-free cream cheese and cheese alternatives. The unsliced log can be frozen for up to 1 month.
