These crostini are a perfect blend of simple and sophisticated. Creamy, tangy goat cheese is brightened with fresh herbs and lemon, then spread on golden, crisp baguette slices for an elegant appetizer that comes together in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch thick rounds
  • 8 ounces plain goat cheese (chevre), softened at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup mixed fresh herbs, finely chopped (such as parsley, chives, and dill)
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced or grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • Flaky sea salt, for finishing
  • Optional for garnish: a drizzle of honey, extra herbs, or cracked pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange baguette slices on a baking sheet. Lightly brush both sides with olive oil. Bake for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp. Let cool.
  2. While bread toasts, make the herbed cheese. In a medium bowl, combine softened goat cheese, chopped herbs, 1 tablespoon olive oil, lemon zest, lemon juice, minced garlic, and black pepper. Mix with a fork until smooth and well-combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  3. Once crostini are cool, spread a generous layer of the herbed goat cheese mixture onto each slice.
  4. Arrange on a platter. Finish with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt and any optional garnishes. Serve immediately.

Notes

Assemble just before serving to keep the bread crisp. For a dairy-free version, use plant-based cream cheese. The herbed cheese mixture can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 4 days.
