  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, plus ½ cup for topping
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • Optional: 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft, then stir in garlic. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and paprika.
  3. Reduce heat and stir in mushroom soup, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, and 1 cup of cheddar cheese. Fold in optional vegetables if using.
  4. Transfer mixture to the baking dish. Top with frozen tater tots in a single layer.
  5. Bake for 35 minutes. Add remaining ½ cup cheese and bake an additional 5–10 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, use plant-based ground meat and soup. Add frozen mixed vegetables or spinach for extra nutrition. To prep ahead, assemble the casserole without tater tots and refrigerate overnight, then top with tots just before baking.
