This quick & easy Korean ground beef bowl comes together in one skillet, making cleanup as fast as the cooking. The secret to the sticky, caramelized glaze is a simple simmer in the sauce right in the pan.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1-2 teaspoons Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon neutral oil (like avocado or canola)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • Steamed white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, Gochujang, and black pepper to make the sauce.
  2. Heat neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until fully browned.
  3. Reduce heat to medium. Pour the sauce over the cooked beef and simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and glazes the beef.
  4. Turn off heat and stir in most of the green onions and sesame seeds, reserving some for garnish.
  5. Serve immediately over steamed white rice, topped with remaining green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use tamari or coconut aminos. Adjust Gochujang to control spiciness. The simmer step is crucial for achieving the sticky glaze.
